The Hampta Pass Trek is one of Himachal Pradesh’s most thrilling and scenic adventures. Starting from the lush green valleys of Manali, this 5-day trek takes you through dense forests, alpine meadows, rocky terrains, and snow-covered passes. With every step, the landscape transforms—from the verdant Kullu Valley to the stark, high-altitude deserts of Spiti. The journey concludes at the breathtaking Chandratal Lake, a pristine glacial lake known for its crescent shape and crystal-clear water.

Day 1 – Arrive in Manali | Drive to Jobra | Trek to Chika (2–3 km)
Arrive in Manali by morning and meet your trek leader. After a short briefing and breakfast, drive to Jobra—the starting point of the trek. From Jobra, begin a short hike to Chika. The trail winds through maple, pine, and birch forests. Along the way, walk beside the gushing Rani Nallah. Reach Chika in about two hours and settle into your tents. The peaceful riverside setting sets the tone for the adventure ahead.
Day 2 – Trek from Chika to Balu Ka Ghera (8 km)
Start your day early with a hearty breakfast. Today’s trail is longer and leads you to Balu Ka Ghera. As you trek, the Dhauladhar range gradually dominates the skyline. Meadows bloom with seasonal flowers, and the air grows crisper as you ascend. After 5–6 hours of steady trekking, arrive at your campsite near the riverbed. The views from here are nothing short of magical. Spend the evening relaxing and soaking in the mountain vibes.
Day 3 – Trek to Hampta Pass | Descent to Siagoru (7 km)
This is the most exciting day of the trek. Begin a steep ascent to Hampta Pass, the highest point of the trail. From the top, enjoy panoramic views of the Lahaul and Spiti valleys. After a short break, begin your descent toward Siagoru. The trail down is steep but scenic, cutting through high-altitude pastures. Reach Siagoru by evening and unwind at the riverside campsite.
Day 4 – Trek to Chatru | Drive to Chandratal Lake (7 km trek + drive)
After breakfast, descend further through the Hampta Valley toward Chatru. The landscape shifts again—barren cliffs replace green meadows. Once you reach Chatru, hop into a vehicle and drive to Chandratal Lake. Located at 4,250 meters, the lake stuns with its moon-like shape and mirrored reflections of surrounding peaks. Spend the night near this serene lake and witness a sky full of stars.
Day 5 – Drive Back to Manali | Trip Ends
Wake up to the unforgettable view of Chandratal in the soft morning light. After breakfast, start your journey back to Manali via the rough yet scenic roads of Lahaul and Spiti. As you descend into Kullu Valley, reflect on the incredible contrasts and experiences of the past few days. Arrive in Manali by evening with memories that will last a lifetime.

Tour Plan
Day 01
ARRIVE AT MANALI | DRIVE TO JOBRA | TREK TO CHIKA ( 2 - 3 km trek )
- Arrive at Manali in the morning, and our representative will welcome you there.
- Have a wholesome breakfast at Manali and get ready to drive to Jobra (16 km from Manali), from where the Hampta Pass trek originates.
- At this transfer point, receive a briefing from your trip leader
and gear for an easy ascent to Chika ( 2 - 3 km from Jobra ).
- It’s an easy trek to the Chika that takes about 2 hours to reach the campsite on the banks of Rani Nallah, a trek that takes you into a mixed forest of pine, green maple and birch trees.
- With the mesmerising topography of the Himachal coming into
play, you barely realise the climb.
- While trekking, walk along with River Rani, which introduces the
surroundings of big rocky hills in absolute splendour.
- Enjoy an overnight stay and dinner at the tents in Chika.
Day 02
TREK FROM CHIKA TO BALU KA GHERA | STAY AT BALU KA GHERA
- Enjoy the scrumptious breakfast and leave Chika
campsite and trek to Balu ka Ghera ( 8 km long ).
- Feel the reality of being in the Himalayan region as you
catch the first glimpse of the outer Himalayan chain of
Mountains as the Dhauladhar ranges, begin to appear.
- Commonly referred to as The White Range, you’ll notice the mighty towers occupy the entire frame, with meadows and flower-filled valleys dotted for company.
- After the trek of about 5 - 6 hours, arrive at Balu ka Ghera and settle down at this base for the day, have lunch, and spend the rest of the time admiring the surreal beauty, losing yourself in an ambience that will take your breath away.
- Have your dinner and rest up in the camps at Balu ka
Ghera.
Day 03
TREK TO HAMPTA PASS | DESCENT TO BASE CAMP AT SIAGORU
- Wake up in the lap of mountains, this day is where you get to experience the barren landscape of the Himalayas in the Lahul
and Spiti Valley.
- Such a variety in one region is what makes the Hampta Pass trek the most attractive, especially among amateurs.
- Start your day with a steep ascent to the Hampta Pass ( 7 km long ), One can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view from the top and then descend towards the next campsite, which takes about 10 hours.
- Discover the serene calmness that surrounds the valley, you
might meet shepherds at this high-altitude pass who visit the
valley to nourish their sheep with the special grass that grows
around the area.
- After a brief stopover at Hampta village, which gives the pass
It's name, you’ll begin the descent to the base camp at Siagoru.
- After coming back to Siagoru, rest up overnight at Siagoru
Day 04
TREK DOWN TO CHATRU | DRIVE TO CHANDRATAAL
- Wake up to the lovely view of the Himalayas, after breakfast, begin an easy descent through the Hampta Valley.
- Witness the Pir Panjal range of the inner Himalayan circle that appears ahead of you.
- Follow and walk on these beautiful landscape trails all through Spiti till you arrive at the base camp at Chatru ( 7 km in distance ).
- Head to Chatru, a confluence of three paths – Hampta Pass,
Spiti and Rohtang Pass, this green paradise in the barren, cold desert, is like a breath of fresh air. This takes about 4 - 5 hours.
- Later, drive to Chandrataal, a moon-shaped alpine lake located at an altitude of 4250m. It is one of the most enchanting lakes in this region, it is here that you’ll fall head over heels in love with the Himalayas.
- Find yourself connected with nature as the lake’s blue waters open a vista of reflections of the enveloping Himalayan peaks.
- Have your dinner and spend the night at Chandrataal.
Day 05
DRIVE TO MANALI | TRIP ENDS
- Wake up to the views of the moon-shaped lake, it is the day when your Hampta Pass trekking adventure comes to an end.
- After breakfast, traverse the high-altitude pass that
connects the humid Kullu Valley and the arid Lahaul and Spiti Valley.
- Arrive at Manali and end your journey with a bag full of memories.
